My names is Rob Plaister and I am the owner of DRP Logistics, who are one of many sponsors of the Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Club.
A hockey obsessive, since the age of 12, back in the Solihull Barons best years, I lost my way and interest in the game after watching them fall from one financial disaster to another. This, coupled with the fact I was reaching my late teens, meant I walked away temporarily from the game I loved so much.
At the same time I was setting up my own business in 2011, my daughter had reached the age of 4, and I was desperate to take her and my wife to watch live sport. Football was out of the question, Cricket takes too long, so back we went to Solihull, and we loved it.
However things had changed in Solihull, the magic had gone from those halcyon days of Brent Sapergia and Steve Chartrand, but we still loved our time there.
During the couple of years, I was watching the Barons toil in the lower reaches of British Hockey, I was quickly forming a huge friendship with a guy from Coventry, who insisted I get down to the Skydome and watch the Blaze. For weeks and weeks he wouldn’t leave me alone, and so, through gritted teeth I agreed to go along.
I never looked back, and quickly fell in love with the Blaze, its people and all of the quirks that went with it!
Now, in late 2015, my business is a significant sponsor of the club, through various means.
This blog (stuck in the box) is something I have pondered for a while. At school, I always wanted to be a sports journalist, but never had the determination, or probably the brains to be one. Perhaps this will give me the chance to fulfill an ambition at a truly amateur level of course.
I will always try to be as truthful and as honest as I can, and hopefully I can be the source of some entertainment, intrigue and information.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
